J&K Launches Film Policy Aimed at European-Style Infrastructure: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Aug 01 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced a major initiative to establish the region as a top global film destination, during the J&K Film Conclave held at the International Convention Centre by Dal Lake. The new Film Policy 2024 is designed to emulate successful European models for film infrastructure.

In his address, LG Sinha reminisced about the historic connection between J&K and cinema, highlighting Bollywood’s past affinity for the region. He outlined how the new policy addresses previous shortcomings, including the introduction of a Single Window Cell to streamline film shoot permissions and enhance ease of hiring local talent.

The policy also includes subsidies for both veteran and emerging filmmakers, aimed at fostering a vibrant film ecosystem. Improvements in road connectivity to key filming locations and a commitment to supporting local youth were also underscored.

The conclave featured the launch of the Film Policy 2024, a new Single Window Portal, film screenings, and workshops led by leading filmmakers, signaling a renewed effort to revitalize J&K’s cinematic landscape.(KNS).
