Srinagar, May 10: A lawyer from the Jammu & Kashmir High Court has filed a formal police complaint against senior politician Abdul Gani Vakil, vice chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference for his ‘anti-national’ remarks.
The complaint filed by Advocate Aamir Masoodi alleges that Vakil made remarks on television expressing disdain towards the Republic of India.
The complaint, lodged at police station Shergari Srinagar, states that the lawyer was shocked at witnessing Vakil’s statements during a live television show on ANN News channel.
“Vakil while addressing to people on camera, made a statement that “Hamara Program Saaf Hai, Hum Loug Saaf Keh Rahe Hai HINDUSTAN K BAREY MEI/Wazir E Azam Ko Ki NA SAMJO GAI TOW MITT JAWO GAI AEY HINDUSTAN WALO TUMHARI DASTAAN TAK B NA HOGI DASTAANU MEI” Means “ If you don’t understand, you will be erased/destroyed, o people of Hindustan. Even in the tales, your story will not Exist,” reads the complaint.
In his complaint, the lawyer asserts that such statements, made by a public figure with considerable influence, have the potential to incite unrest and disrupt peace in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Political leader has outraged, attacked and tarnished the feelings of nationalism and patriotism of complainant by virtue of his statement therefore, cannot be overlooked and ignored before the Mechanism of law,” it reads.
Seeking registration of FIR, the lawyer has requested police to take cognizance of the complaint and proceed in accordance with the law.
