Jammu police solves blind murder case within six hours
JAMMU (KIMS) — In a swift and commendable operation, the Jammu Police unraveled the mystery behind the blind murder of a laborer, Pappu Paswan, within six hours of its report in the Garkhal area of Akhnoor.
The investigation was led by IC SDPO Akhnoor Mudassir Hussain, SHO Akhnoor, and IC BPP Garkhal, under the supervision of SP Rural Jammu, Sh. Brijesh Sharma.
The incident came to light on December 10, 2024, at around 10:00 AM, when IC BPP Garkhal received information about an “unidentified male body found in suspicious circumstances” in an agricultural field near Garkhal village.
The body, partially covered with paddy stubble, bore visible head and facial injuries, indicating a possible homicide.
An inquest under Section 194 BNSS was immediately initiated. A forensic team and crime photographer examined the scene, recovering critical evidence, including a “blood-stained grape hoe (kassi) with a broken handle,” suspected to be the murder weapon.
The deceased was identified as Pappu Paswan, whose missing report had been filed at BPP Garkhal (DDR No. 14, dated December 9, 2024).
During the investigation, the deceased’s wife, Meena Devi, provided crucial information. Living in a rented house owned by Balwinder Singh alias Happy, she revealed that the accused had been harassing her and attempting to force an “illicit relationship.”
Balwinder Singh was summoned for interrogation and, under sustained questioning, confessed to the crime.
The police stated, “The accused admitted that on December 7, 2024, he threatened Pappu Paswan over unpaid dues and opposed his plans to take his wife and children back to Bishnah. The following day, he lured the victim to his agricultural fields under the pretense of discussion and attacked him with the grape hoe, inflicting fatal injuries. He then concealed the body under paddy stubble to evade detection.”
The investigation revealed two key motives — “The accused’s attempts to force an illicit relationship with Meena Devi” and “Disputes over unpaid rent.”
The inquest proceedings were converted into an FIR (No. 223/2024) under Section 103 BNS at PS Akhnoor. The accused, Balwinder Singh alias Happy, has been arrested, and further investigations are going on.
