Jaish Commander Sajad Afghani among two militants slain in Shopian gunfight
Srinagar: Jaish-e-Mohammad militant commander Sajad Afghani is among the two militants who were slain in a gunfight between government forces and militants at Rawalpora village in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Police on Sunday identified the second slain militant as Jahangir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Rakh Narpora Shopian. He was affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba militant outfit.
One AK-47 rifle with a UBL shell and one USA made rifle’s M-4 carbine was recovered from the site of the encounter.
Earlier on Saturday, government forces including Army’s34 RR, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police had launched cordon and search operation in the village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
According to reports, four residential houses were damaged during the gunfight.
A youth was also injured during clashes at the gunfight site after he was hit by pellets in eye. He was shifted ho hospital for treatment. A cop was also injured during clashes.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar has congratulated Shopian Police and security forces on eliminating Afghani.
