Israel Confirms New Wave of Strikes in Southern Gaza; Humanitarian Aid Suspended Until Further Notice

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday confirmed the launch of a new wave of airstrikes in southern Gaza, marking a major escalation and putting the fragile ceasefire agreement under serious threat.

The attacks, according to Israeli officials, were carried out after Hamas allegedly violated the truce by firing at Israeli troops in or near Rafah. The IDF said the strikes targeted what it described as “terror infrastructure and weapons depots belonging to Hamas.”

Israel Suspends Aid Deliveries into Gaza

A senior Israeli security official told media outlets that the transfer of humanitarian aid into Gaza has been halted until further notice, following directives from the political leadership.

“Based on Hamas’s open violation of the ceasefire, the movement of humanitarian supplies into Gaza is temporarily suspended,” the official said.

The decision comes amid mounting tension and mutual accusations between Israel and Hamas. The truce, which had allowed hundreds of aid trucks to enter Gaza daily since October 10, now stands on the brink of collapse.

Hamas, however, rejected Israel’s accusations, saying it remains “fully committed to the ceasefire agreement.” The group accused Israel of multiple violations since the ceasefire began, claiming dozens of casualties from earlier Israeli operations.

Gaza’s media office reported that at least 38 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire started, describing it as a “clear breach of the agreement brokered by international mediators.”

Aid agencies have warned that suspending humanitarian deliveries could further deteriorate Gaza’s already critical humanitarian situation.

Before the suspension, daily aid convoys brought food, fuel, and medical supplies to civilians. The United Nations had already warned in August that parts of Gaza were facing famine-like conditions due to prolonged shortages.

The World Food Programme and other humanitarian bodies have called on Israel to immediately reopen border crossings to avoid “irreversible consequences for civilians trapped in Gaza.”

Diplomatic sources say Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are working behind the scenes to restore calm and bring both parties back to compliance. However, Sunday’s escalation indicates that the ceasefire may not hold unless both sides recommit to restraint.

Observers warn that any further breakdown could trigger another cycle of violence, worsening the humanitarian tragedy and destabilizing the wider region.

Several international organizations and human rights groups have condemned the renewed strikes, calling for restraint from both sides.

The European Union has urged Israel to allow humanitarian access, while the United Nations expressed “grave concern” over the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

With the resumption of Israeli airstrikes and the suspension of humanitarian aid, Gaza faces an uncertain future. The coming days will determine whether the ceasefire survives or gives way to another round of full-scale conflict.
