Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of local communities, the Indian Army organised a Medical and Veterinary Assistance Camp at Banal Post in the heights of Pir Panjal. The initiative was designed to address both human and animal healthcare needs under a single umbrella, thereby supporting the well-being of Gujjar-Bakarwals as well as strengthening their livelihood base.

A team comprising 07 doctors (including 03 male doctors, 01 female doctor, 02 dental officers, and 01 veterinary specialist) assisted by nursing staff, provided free medical consultations, distributed medicines, and conducted awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and preventive healthcare. Simultaneously, the veterinary team undertook vaccination, deworming, and treatment of over 1222 livestock, while sensitising Gujjar-Bakarwals on modern animal husbandry practices. Refreshments were also arranged for participants, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

The camp witnessed an enthusiastic response from the community. More than 141 Gujjar-Bakarwals from Drung, Kafdal, Pehnjan Pathri and Burzetar availed the benefits of general health check-ups, preventive health guidance, paediatric consultation, free medicines, and veterinary support for their livestock. This integrated approach not only addressed immediate healthcare concerns but also contributed to the long-term strengthening of the rural economy through improved livestock management.

On the sidelines, the Company Commander interacted with Gujjar-Bakarwals, highlighting essential do’s and don’ts during seasonal migration, with a focus on safety, security and coordination with the army.

The initiative drew widespread appreciation from the Gujjar-Bakarwals, who conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Army. By catering to urgent medical needs and providing sustainable guidance, the camp further deepened the bond of trust, cooperation, and mutual support between the Indian Army and the local populace.
