India decimate Sri Lanka in Asia Cup final, bring home 8th title
Srinagar, Sep 17 : India secured their 8th Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final match on Sunday. This victory marked India’s first Asia Cup win since 2018.
Earlier in the day Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first, but they were dismissed for a meagre 50 runs, marking the lowest total ever in an Asia Cup final.
Mohammed Siraj was the standout performer among the Indian bowlers, claiming 6 wickets for just 21 runs. In response, India effortlessly reached the target in mere 6.1 overs without losing a wicket.
Ishan Kishan scored 23 runs off 18 balls, while Shubhman Gill posted 27 runs off 19 balls.
India’s triumph was a comprehensive one, capping off a highly successful tournament for them. They had a flawless record in the group stage and had previously defeated Sri Lanka twice, including in the final match.
This victory in the Asia Cup 2023 served as a morale boost for the team as they go prepared for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in India later this year. (KNS)
