In Absence Of A Bridge, Residents Face Immense Hardships At Qazigund

Qazigund: The vital bridge at Qazigund on a river locally known as Shah-Saib-un Kadal (Bridge) which bonds dozens of villages including Railway station Qazigund and Tehsil Headquarter Qazigund, was damaged in September 2014 devastating floods and has not been reconstructed.

Due to poor road connectivity as ‘Nallah Veth’ stream just ahead of Qazigund town at Check-i-Badwani is without a bridge, despite public requests to Road and Buildings (R&B) Department

With the passage of four years, the administration has utterly failed to reconstruct the damaged  Qazigund bridge in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Villagers through self service did some maintenance and laid wooden makeshift bolder on it but lack of the bridge over the stream is their main concern.

Locals said that the authorities as well as the politicians have made several assurances but have failed to come up to the expectations of the people.

“We are suffering a lot due to lack of road connectivity but nobody is paying any heed over our sufferings,” they said, adding that the worst suffers are school going children who have to cross this bridge twice a day to reach to their school.

“We want to educate our children but the authorities are creating hurdles in their way by not providing faculties to them,” they said.

However the authorities started the reconstruction work on the bridge over one years ago but unfortunately, the work got hampered due to stone excretion from a local construction company, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Mir, a local.

He also added that if their demands were not fulfilled soon, they would be forced to intensify their agitation.

However residents of Check-i-Badwani, Kurigam, Nagraed and its adjoining villages demanded authorities to reconstruction the bridge at the earliest so that the villagers could heave a sigh of relief.

While contacted with Executive Engineer R&B Qazigund Basharat Jaleel told CITY FM that work will begin within a month.
