In a First, SED enrolls 50 non-local students in Government School in Pulwama

PULWAMA (KIMS) — In a significant move, the School Education Department (SED) in Pulwama has launched a campaign to promote education among the children of poor families.

This initiative, the first of its kind in the Kashmir Valley, was spearheaded by the SED, particularly by the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Tahab, to boost education among underprivileged children in the district.

Under this initiative, the SED enrolled 50 children of non-local brick kiln laborers in the Government Primary School in Adoora village, Shahoora belt of the district.

In addition to enrolling these students, the department distributed free books, uniforms, and other essentials to encourage their participation in education. A Mid Day Meal will also be provided to these children.

The zone plans to provide additional facilities and resources to support these underprivileged children, including distributing supplies, arranging midday meals, and securing uniforms, underscoring the district’s commitment to literacy and educational advancement.

A function was organized at Primary School Adoora, attended by Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Tahab, Muhammad Yunus, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama, Abdul Qayyum Nadvi, senior officers of the Education Department, and local community members.

On the occasion, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Tahab, Muhammad Yunus, expressed his gratitude, stating, “The local people helped us achieve this feat.”

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama, Abdul Qayyum Nadvi, added, “A national-level program aims to reduce the illiteracy rate, and this initiative, under which children of brick kiln workers were admitted to school, will help to achieve that goal.”

The initiative has been widely appreciated by the local community, who have requested that such efforts continue in the future. — (KIMS)
