IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar earns most wide-spread acclaim for people-friendly, anti-militant operations

Srinagar, Feb 2: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar has become a distinguished name among Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for people-friendly and counter-terrorism strategies.

A highly respected name in the Indian police, IPS officer Kumar’s distinguished career spans several different fields, from law enforcement and traffic Police.

However, it is his people-friendly policies and counter-terrorism strategies and tactics that his contributions have earned the most wide-spread acclaim.

Kumar is credited with the bringing graph of violence in Kashmir from top to bottom, over 400 successful anti-terrorist operations and eliminating the stone pelting in Kashmir.

Furthermore, he played a key part in strengthening the people-police relationship and developing invaluable sources of information in the intelligence gathering apparatus of the Union Territory.

He has also been instrumental in introducing several citizen-friendly initiatives as well as several welfare measures for the benefit of the lower rungs of the police force.

Four hundred militants have been killed during anti-militant operations during his tenure as IGP Kashmir.

The 1997 Batch IPS officer took charge as Kashmir Police Chief on 30 December 2019, replacing Swayam Parkash Pani (IPS).  

 

In 2021 total of 182 militants, including 44 of their top commanders and 20 foreigners, in 100 successful anti-terror operations by Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces in the Union Territory. 

Nine Jaish-e-Mohammad militants involved in the attack on a police bus in Pantha Chowk were eliminated while a total of 20 foreign militants were killed during 2021.
