Huge consignment of arms, ammo sent by LeT commander recovered: Police
Srinagar, Mar 05 : Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have recovered a huge consignment of arms and ammunition in Mahore area of Reasi, which was sent by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Khobaib (original resident of Doda and now based in Pakistan).
Police also stated that one person, possessing such a huge consignment was also arrested.
Police spokesman in a statement, said that on the basis of specific information received in case under FIR number 05/2021 at Police Station Mahore under sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122, 123, 124 IPC registered on 01-01-2021, one person namely Reyaz Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed of Kundedhan Chassana, age 21 years, was apprehended by team of police station Mahore.
“On sustained interrogation in presence of Executive Magistrate Mahore, he disclosed that he has hidden a cache of arms and ammunition in a hideout located between Makhidhar and upper Shikari ridge of Tehsil Mahore, District Reasi,” spokesman said, adding that a joint search operation of Jammu Kashmir police and Army was launched in the area.
During search two UBGL/ MGL grenades, one Chinese grenade , two No 36 grenades, one RPG Amn, three Mor Bomb, two kgs Gun powder, 250 gm Explosive, 30 Insas rds, 20 Sniper rds and 30 AK 47 Rds were recovered from the hideout.
“Investigation so far revealed that this cache of arms and ammunition was to be delivered to some person from Gool, district Ramban. It has also been revealed that this consignment was sent by LeT commander Khobaib (original resident of Doda and now based in Pakistan). Khobaib has been continuously trying to send in money and arms in the Jammu region and has also been trying to revive militant activities in the Chenab Valley by recruiting young boys for LeT,” police said.
This is the third big recovery within week in the area, spokesman said, adding that this entire operation was conducted by police team of police station Mahore led by SHO Mahore Rattan Singh under the supervision of SDPO Mahore, Khalid Ashraf, DYSP and under the overall supervision of Addl. SP Reasi Surjeet Bhagat and SSP Reasi Rashmi Wazir
