Home Sense super market sealed for selling products with expiration dates, several others fined

Srinagar, July 9: In view of complaints of profiteering, authorities in Srinagar have expedited surprise checks of markets to book the violators.
Authorities Saturday sealed one shop at Chanapora for selling products having expiration dates.
The drive was carried by the team led by Naib Tehsildar Chanapora Affaq Ahmad Wani at Chanapora and its adjacent areas to check the complaints of black marketing and selling of products on exorbitant rates.
An official said that the drive was carried in compliance to directions of District Magistrate Srinagar.
The drive was jointly carried by team of revenue officials Tehsil Chanapora led by Naib Tehsildar Nowgam Affaq Ahad wani, Naib tehsildar Sanatnagar Umar Manzoor, Food civil supplies and consumer affairs department, Legal Meteorology.
“Fine to tune of more than three thousand was recovered from violators including bakery Hatric. However during this drive HOME SENSE 2 Chanapora was sealed for selling products having expiration dates,” said an official.
“We have been receiving complaints of profiteering. In a surprise visit to several areas and markets, we found several shopkeepers resorting to profiteering,” said an official.
He informed that most of the violators included mutton, vegetable and milk sellers.
He said that market checking teams are active and surprise visits are part of the campaign to catch violators by surprise.
As reported earlier by ANN News, complaints were pouring in about the essential commodities being solid at exorbitant rates.
There are several agencies responsible for checking the menace of profiteering. One of the major departments which fix rates of essential commodities is FCSCA.
