Srinagar, April 12: With Muslims in J&K completing 10th fasting day on Tuesday evening, the holy month Ramadhan is entering into second Ashra.
The month of blessings Ramadhan in the Islamic calendar is divided into three parts of ten days each called an Ashra, a word meaning “ten” in Arabic.
The first two stages (Ashra) consists of ten days each while the final Ashra consists of nine of ten days, depending upon the appearance of Shawal moon.
The first Ashra reflects Mercy of Allah (Rehmah), second part reflects Forgiveness of Allah (Maghfirah) and third part reflects Safety from the Hell (Nijat).
“We are thankful to Almighty Allah for providing us opportunity to witness this holy month Ramdhan and completing its first Ashra of Rehmah. May Allah have his mercy upon all of us, to strengthen our faith, and to observe the next two stages of holy month with complete faith,” said a group of people who broke their fast at revered shrine Dargah Hazratbal on Tuesday evening.
The second Ashra of Maghfirat commences with the 11th fasting day.
During the final Ashra of Ramadhan, Muslims opt to observe Aitikaf in Masjids.
The Aitikaf in Masjids and Shrines is being observed by thousands of Muslims across the globe.
Thousands of Muslims across Kashmir begin to observe Aitikaf in Masjids and shrines on 20th Ramdhan evening as the holy month of Ramadan enters in its final Ashra, or last ten days.
According to Islamic scholars, the greatest Sunnah of last ten days of Ramadan is the observance of Aitikaf.
“These last ten days of Ramadan are very significant as they are when Laylat-ul-Qadr takes place. The holy night of Laylat-ul-Qadr commemorates the night when the Qur’an was first revealed,” said an Islamic Scholar.
