Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir | May 2025
In a momentous achievement for India’s mountaineering community, a Joint Expedition Team comprising instructors from the premier National Mountaineering Institutes — Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports (JIM&WS) Pahalgam, Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) Uttarkashi, and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) Darjeeling — has successfully summitted the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8848.86m), on 23 May 2025 at 0409 hrs.
The expedition was ceremoniously flagged off by Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth on 26 March 2025 in New Delhi. Demonstrating exemplary courage, resilience, and teamwork amidst extreme weather conditions and extreme-altitude challenges, the team has set a new benchmark in Indian mountaineering history.
As part of their acclimatization schedule, the team also achieved the successful ascent of Mt. Lobuche (6119m) on 18 April 2025 at 0758 hrs.
The expedition was led by Col Anshuman Bhadauria, Principal NIM Uttarkashi and Col Hem Chandra Singh, Principal JIM&WS Pahalgam, with an experienced team of five instructors:
Hav Rajendra Mukhiya (JIM&WS)
Mr Rakesh Singh Rana (NIM)
Sub Bahadur Pahan (NIM)
Mr Pasang Tenzing Sherpa (HMI)
Hav Thupstan Tsewang (HMI)
The team has safely descended to Everest Base Camp and is currently en route to Kathmandu.
This landmark accomplishment not only embodies the indomitable spirit and endurance of our nation’s mountaineers but also stands as a proud testament to India’s growing prowess in adventure sports and high-altitude expeditions.
Heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for this extraordinary and historic achievement.
Jai Hind!
