Handwara Police held Drug De-addiction awareness programme at Govt Degree College Handwara
Handwara: Today Handwara Police in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Handwara held a day-long Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention at Govt. Degree College Handwara.
The Chief guest of the event was Superintendent of Police Handwara Dr.G.V.Sundeep Chakravarthy-IPS accompanied by ASP Handwara Shri Mashkoor Ahmad-JKPS, DYSP DAR Handwara Shri Abdul Raqeeb-JKPS besides teaching and non teaching staff of GDC Handwara, Doctors from Govt. District Hospotal Handwara, Students from GDC Handwara and various other Schools, Chairman Municipality Committee Handwara, members of Civil Society were also present on the event.
While speaking on the event, SP Handwara said that the issue of drug abuse is a challenge before the country. It is the duty of all stakeholders to join in creating awareness about the illegal use of drugs and the measures to be taken to prevent this menace. He said that substance abuse has affected human rights in every aspect. He appreciated participants for being part of the event organised by Handwara Police to get aware about the ill effects of drugs and cooperating Handwara Police in organising *Drug Abuse Prevention Awareness Programme*, which he said, will prove to be useful in the long run.
On the event the participants demanded for more such programmes in Handwara to which the chief guest assured all possible help. SP Hadwara said that for the betterment of youth J&K Police always remain on the forefront . During last year, Handwara Police has organized many sports events in Handwara so that the youth will be busy in constructive activities. JK Police always worked for the welfare of the people .
He also said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, public cooperation is necessary and stressed upon the participants to share all such informations related to drug supply in the area so that police can act swiftly. He also appealed the participants to cooperate Police in identifying drug addicts in their locality so that they can be counselled in better ways.
On the event, the members of civil society, religious preachers, teachers and students also spoke and highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a peacful environment.
At the end the prizes were distributed among the participants as a token of respect and peace.
