Gujarati Conman Aftermath; J&K Govt To Draw SoP to Tackle Impersonation Cases

Srinagar, March 16: J&K Government is likely to put on place Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) to prevent impersonations that result in fraudulent availment of protocols.

The development comes a few days after a Gujarati conman was arrested by J&K Police in Srinagar who impersonated a high ranking official in the Prime Minister’s Office.

J&K Police arrested an imposter posing as a high ranking official from the Prime Minister’s office and enjoying protocols provided by J&K government.

The imposter Kiran Bhai Patel from Gujarat has forged documents wherein he claimed to be “Additional Director (Strategy & Campaigns) Prime Minister’s Office”.

The Police got suspicious about conman after CID provided significant inputs and the suspect was put under surveillance.

“The government is mulling to draw SoP wherein all government officials will be directed to not entertain any recommendation, letter, document etc if it doesn’t come through the proper channel,” a top official told ANN News.

The object of SoP, as per official, is to prevent fraud cases involving the use of fake recommendations, references and documents for fraudulent availment of protocols or benefits.

During his visit and stay in Kashmir, Patel enjoyed VIP Protocol and was escorted by security. He enjoyed staying in a five-star hotel at the expense of the state exchequer.

The photographs suggest that several BJP members also called on Patil and sought favours. However, it was not immediately known as how these BJP members came to know about the presence of Patil in Kashmir and who managed their meetings with this imposter.

Patil has posted videos, showing him being escorted by security in Kashmir, on his social media accounts.

The court on Thursday granted judicial custody of the accused and sent him to Srinagar Central Jail.

The Police has booked accused under various sections of Indian Penal Code, which if proved in Court, may warrant life imprisonment.
