SAIMA KHAN

Shopian: Gazi Muzamil, President of Jammu and Kashmir Students Movement (JKSM) said that the government of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory should allow the community classes for students to ease their sufferings during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The students have confined themselves to four walls and have become dull due to online mode of education. The less physical activities will also have negative impact on the health mentally, physically as well as psychologically.

Gazi Muzamil while talking to ANN News (Asia News Network) said, “If people can participate in marriage ceremonies, funerals, even they can participate in outdoor games with less number then why student community is neglected. Why can’t government conduct community classes”

“Education is the worst hit sector in Kashmir division especially after August 2019. Except for few weeks educational institutions remained close all the time” said Muzamil adding “the government should allow community classes as thousands of students don’t have access to smartphones”.

He further said that the government should look after specially-abled students (visually impaired, deaf) etc. The government should provide them education in open air via community classes with less number of participants that will be a better option.

The government should vaccinate teachers and students who will be allowed to conduct classes in open sky, he added.

Muzamil further said, the government changed whole education policy within hours after viral video of a little girl. There are many big issues that have been neglected and government should look into them as well.

“In this pandemic lockdown, many universities across country have reduced semester and examination fees but here the university has raised the fees when everybody is affected due lockdown. Besides the university has changed the examination pattern which is a concern. The students are in distress due to change in the exam pattern”, Muzamil said.

“The students are still paying rent for rooms which they didn’t use due to closure of educational institutions. Even landlords are not allowing them to take their belongings without clearing dues and its unfortunate” Muzamil said adding “The government should frame a policy to ease the suffering of students”.
