Govt Orders Sanction To Prosecute Woman Arrested Last Year With Grenades

Srinagar, May 27: The state government has ordered prosecution of a woman from Konmoh in outskirts of Srinagar who was allegedly arrested on 13 November last year at Parimpora Srinagar.

According to a government order, Police Station Parimpora received a written docket to the effect that on 13 November 2018 while conducting Naka checking on the highway at Lawaypora a Golden Colour Passenger Tavera coming towards Srinagar boarding passengers was signalled to stop.

The search of the vehicle was conducted and during search, one female passenger travelling in it was found carrying a bag and on searching ten hand grenades and 365 live rounds of AK-47 were recovered, it said.

During preliminary questioning, the government order reads that the lady actually used to transport arms and ammunition for some unknown militants for carrying out militant activities.

Subsequently, a case FIR No.397/2018 U/S 7/25 A.Act, 23 UAP Act of Police Station Parimpora Srinagar was registered and the investigation was taken up.

“During the course of Investigation, the search was conducted in the residential house of the accused lady and incriminating material including a CPU was seized from her room. The cell phones and CPU recovered were produced before Executive Magistrate and resealed and accordingly sent to FSL Chandigarh for expert opinion,” the order said, according to GNS.

The Investigation conducted also revealed that the father of the woman was also an active militant and was killed by government forces during an encounter a few years ago. “It also transpired that she had been delivering arms ammunition to unknown militants for a long time without disclosing her identity to unknown militants. Evidence collected has prima facie established the commission of offences punishable u/s 7/25 A Act, 23 UAP Act against the accused.”

The State Government under sub-section (2) of section 45 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, order says has independently scrutinized the Case Diary file and all the other relevant documents relating to the case and has come to a definite conclusion that this is a fit case for accord of prosecution sanction against the accused person for commission of offences punishable under Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Subsequently, the Government accorded sanction for launching prosecution against the accused for commission of offences punishable u/s 23 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 arising out of FIR No. 397/2018 of Police Station Parimpora. (GNS)
