Government to Restore November Academic Session: Education Minister Sakina Itoo Confirms

Srinagar, Oct 24: In a significant policy shift, the Education Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Sakina Itoo, announced that the government will restore the November-December academic session from the next academic year. The decision comes in response to growing public demand and concerns over the current academic calendar, which was switched to a March session a few years ago.

The Education Minister had previously indicated that the matter would be put in the public domain to seek broader feedback before making a final decision. However, with increasing calls from various quarters, she believes further consultation is unnecessary. “Given the public demand, I don’t think there is any need to solicit additional feedback. We have already received substantial input from people across the region urging the restoration of the November session in schools,” Itoo added.

The shift to a March session had faced criticism from students, parents, and educators alike, who argued that the academic flow and preparedness of students were being disrupted. Critics also cited logistical challenges posed by harsh winter conditions, which often forced school closures during crucial months.

With this restoration, students and educators alike can now look forward to an academic year that aligns more closely with seasonal conditions and local expectations.

The Education Department is expected to roll out formal guidelines for the transition in the coming months, ensuring a smooth shift for schools across the region.
