Front page press note failed to build ‘pressure’ on Govt

Finally, Nedou’s ‘illegal occupation’ ended in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 31: Authorities in J&K have retrieved 40 kanals of state land from Nedou’s Hotel in Srinagar.

The move came after couple of days when Nedou’s had published a press note in English local daily to claim legal possession over state land.

The recovery was part of the ongoing drive against the people who have grabbed state land illegally.

Some of the business tycoons are also under scanner for occupying the state land at ‘gun point.’

ANN News has recently carried the series of stories about encroachment of state. In one of the stories, ANN News has named Nedou also as encroacher while quoting official records.

Nedou in an effort to build a pressure on independent media houses to not highlight its encroachment, published a paid press note in one of the English local dailies.

However, the media houses didn’t budge to the pressure and continued to perform its professional duties and highlight encroachments issues in J&K.

“Yes, we saw that paid press release on front page of the newspaper. However, the official records are very much loud and clear. It failed to divert our attention from the truth. We have retrieved the 40 kanals of land from Nedou’s in Srinagar,” said an official.

Public at large have hailed the efforts of government.

Officials said that the anti encroachment drive would continue. However, the government is mulling to come up with the policy to spare poor. The development is likely to take place after several BJP leaders called on the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and made personal requests about protecting the poor and common masses during the ongoing anti-encroachment drive going on across J&K.

“Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is likely to come up with a formal order in a week’s time ensuring protection for the poor and common masses during the ongoing anti-encroachment drive aimed at retrieving the land grabbed by the influential people in the past,” confirmed an official.

“The order may have a mention about the registration fee for the poor having possession of State land up to 10 malras,” official added.
