From Protest to Crackdown: Govt Strips Wangchuk’s NGO of FCRA Status
LEH — India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has initiated a major crackdown against those accused of provoking recent violence in Leh. As part of the action, the MHA has cancelled the FCRA registration certificate of prominent climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
According to officials, further action is being examined, and the possibility of Wangchuk’s arrest or detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) cannot be ruled out.
This move comes just days after large-scale clashes in Leh, triggered by demands for statehood and inclusion of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule, which left four dead and over 80 injured. Security forces continue to enforce strict restrictions across the region as tensions remain high.
