Four LeT militants, 3 aides arrested in North Kashmir
Handwara, April 3: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four militants and three of their associates in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“On the basis of specific information regarding the activities of Anti-National Enemies (ANEs), a raid was carried out by the police last night and searches were conducted accordingly inside the houses Azad Ahmad Bhat of Shalpora Langate, Altaf Baba of Rafiabad Babagund and Irshad Ahmad of Selikoot Uri,” a police statement issued here said. During the raid, arms and ammunition and letter pads of proscribed militant outfit LeT were recovered and accordingly the trio were arrested, the statement said.
“During questioning it came to surface that all the persons were working with militant outfit LeT and were motivating the youth of the area by providing them arms and ammunitions to join militancy,” the statement said.
They further disclosed that they have provided arms and ammunitions to some youth who joined militant ranks recently and are operating with the jurisdiction of Handwara, the statement said.
Accordingly, today in the morning hours, Handwara Police along with 21 RR, 30 RR and 92 Bn CRPF following the input regarding the presence of militants in village Gund Chogal launched a search operation, the statement said.
During the search operation, the four militants of LeT outfit have been apprehended, the statement said.
“03 AK-47, 08 AK 47 Magazines, 332 AK rounds, 12 Hand Grenades, 03 Pistol, 06 Pistol Magazines, 24 Pistol Rounds, letter Pad of LeT outfit have been recovered from their possession,” the statement said, adding that the apprehended militants are Parvaiz Ahmad Chopan son of Abdul Rashid Chopan of Shartpora Langate, Mudasir Ahmad Pandith son of Abdul Rehman of Zargar Mohalla Langate, Mohd Rafi Sheikh son of Mohd Ahsan Sheikh of Eidgah Mohalla Langate and Burhan Mushtaq Wani son of Mushtaq Ahmad of Tulwari Langate. “In this context, a case FIR No. 104/2020 U/s 120 B IPC, 7/25 I.A.Act, 16, 18, 19, 38, 39 UAP Act has been registered in Police Station Handwara. Further investigation into the matter is under process,” the statement added.
Earlier, police said that two associates of LeT were arrested by government forces at Noorbag area of Sopore.
“The raid was carried out by the SOG Sopore and army at Noorbagh area of the apple town last night following specific information. “During the raid two OGWs of the LeT militant outfit were arrested,” he said.
The officer identified the arrested duo as Waseem Ahmad Gojri and Junaid Rashid Ganie of Noorbagh, Sopore.
“One pistol with magazine, five rounds, one UBGL (launcher), two UBGL (grenades) and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession,” he said.
In this connection, a case under FIR number 61/2020 under section 7/25 I Arms Act and 4/5 Explosive Substance Act, 18, 20, 23 Unlawful Activities Act has been registered in police station Sopore and further investigations initiated in this regard.
