Four dead, dozens missing after cloudburst in J&K’s Kishtwar

Jammu, July 28: At least four people were killed and 30-40 others went missing on Wednesday after a cloudburst hit Dachan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

Officials said the cloudburst hit Honjar village early morning today, washing away residential structures and a ration depot.

SSP Kishtwar, Shafqat Hussain Bhat told Greater Kashmir that they have recovered four bodies washed away in flash floods caused by the cloudburst.

He said those affected by the cloudburst include six families comprising 30-40 people, which includes a few Bakerwals as well.

The police officer said that the Kishtwar Police and SDRF personnel were heading to the remote village to launch a rescue operation.

“The village is 35 km away by road from Kishtwar and then, we have to cover a 15 km distance on foot to reach Honjar. We have also requested a helicopter to help in the rescue operation,” he said.

Yesterday, there was also a cloud burst in Padder. However, there was no loss of life or damage to the property. “The heavy rains are continuing in hilly areas,” he added.  GK
