Former Pakistan President And COAS Parvez Musharraf Passes Away After Prolonged Illness
DUBAI — Former President and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Pakistan General (retd) Parvez Musharraf passed away on Sunday after prolonged illness.
According to Pakistani Media reports, Musharraf who had been living in Dubai since 2016 was undergoing treatment at American Hospital Dubai.
The 79-year-old former President and Chief of Army Staff was suffering from amyloidosis.
Pakistani Media reports quoting his family members said, Musharraf was suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disease caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.
Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi, British India. His family moved from New Delhi to Karachi in 1947.
He got his commission from the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul on April 19, 1961. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1964 and was a graduate of the Army Staff and Command College, Quetta.
He was promoted to the rank of general in 1998 and took over as the chief of army staff (COAS).
Musharraf also served as the ongest-serving President of Pakistan from 2002 to 2008.
