Fire Breaks Out In Paper Factory, Army’s Quick Response Minimised Damage
Srinagar, Mar 8: Fire broke out in a paper factory at Khanmoh area in Srinagar outskirts on Friday damaging good worth lakhs of rupees.
Reports said fire broke out inside the paper factory at SIDCO Phase 1, Khanmoh at approximately 3:40 pm Friday. It quickly engulfed the paper factory and many employees were trapped in the raging inferno. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the blaze.
Meanwhile, a defence ministry spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS said since there is no fire station at Khanmoh, there was little the employees could do to control the fire.
“Upon receiving the information of the accident, the army fire tenders were immediately rushed to the factory and the blaze was soon brought under control,” he said.
The fire was effectively contained and suppressed by 1715h the spokesperson said adding that the immediate reaction by the army helped save lives of all the trapped employees. However, some goods were damaged in the fire, he said.
The industrial fraternity and the locals appreciated the army’s prompt response saying they saved valuable lives and prevented fire from spreading to adjoining industries, which could have resulted in a major catastrophe, the spokesperson added. (GNS)
