Female students at North Kashmir’s SKUAST Campus complain of substandard food in hostel
Sopore, Mar 26: Girl students of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) Campus in Wadoora Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been alleging that they are being served substandard and hygienic food in hostel mess.
The female students who are pursuing degrees in agricultural science said there are 3 batches of students who are taking food at mess. “We don’t know what’s happening at boys mess, but the mess for girls is unhygienic where we are being served poor quality food. Recently, we spotted worms in the food. This is not what we pay for. Nobody is concerned when it comes to the wellbeing of the students,” the students told news agency Kashmir News Trust.
“Self cooking is not allowed in the hostels. We have now stopped visiting mess and rely on junk food that we order from outside,” the female students said.
“Students have complained to the warden many times but nothing has been done in this regard.”
They said recently they brought the matter into the notice of Assistant Students Welfare Officer but nothing happened.
Assistant Students Welfare Officer Ajaz Ahmed Qureshi said that he will definitely take note of it. “It is a Cooperative mess where students manage the affairs through a Committee, however, Supervisor and Cooks are from University. Why these students face such problem will be looked into,” Qureshi told. (KNT)
