Extension Lecture on ‘Standard of life and diseases’ organised at GCW Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 15: The G-20 Club of PSPS Government College for Women Gandhinagar, in collaboration with the Department of Urdu, organized an expert talk on the theme ‘Standard of life and diseases”  here today under the guidance of the College Principal Prof. Minu Mahajan.

The Resource Person of the event was Prof. Rakesh Bahl, (Professor, Community Medicine, GMC, Jammu). The event started with the lighting of traditional lamps followed by Ganesh vandana.

The formal welcome address was delivered by Prof. Anupama Sharma. Prof. Sughanda Mahajan presented the keynote address that followed, outlining the G-20 group’s makeup, responsibilities, and significance in geopolitics for sustainable development.

 Prof. Rakesh Bahl, Resource Person, in his talk highlighted the changing lifestyle of the people which has resulted in a number of lifestyle diseases. “Modern technological gadgets have resulted in a number of problems one such as Right thumb syndrome where the people are becoming slaves of their right thumb to control all the routine activities while using various electronic appliances,” he said. He elaborated that young generations are getting sick by consuming unhealthy foods.

Professor Bahl suggested remedial measures to control the increased lifestyle diseases among the individuals. For that, he encouraged the importance of physical activities, balanced diet, less sugar intake and coping strategies to relieve stress and to enjoy a healthy life.

The queries of the students and the faculty members were also addressed by the resource person.

Professor Minu Mahajan, in her address, congratulated the entire team and applauded the initiatives taken by the G- 20 Club for sensitising the young masses. Over 300 students and the faculty members from different departments were present on the occasion.

The Convener Prof S.S Parihar and other members of the Club remained quite instrumental for making this event successful. The technical support for the event was provided by the Department of Computer Science.  The event ended with the formal vote of thanks by Prof. Javed Iqbal.
