Ex-army commander suggests avoiding CASOs for “causing hardship to people”

Srinagar, Mar 10: A retired Major General of Indian Army has suggested troops in Kashmir to avoid cordon and search operations and launch intelligence based surgical operations, reported news agency kashmir Dot Com.

“Excellent gesture. Must avoid CASO, these operations seldom result in any success, in fact the hardship to the people is counter productive.

Intelligence based surgical operations by Small Teams is the way to go,” tweeted former Maj General Yashpal Singh Mor.

Yashpal Singh Mor had tweeted a story from a news agency which had reported that army suspended cordon and search operation in Kralkhud village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on March 6 was immediately suspended because an 11-year old girl was reported unwell in the cordoned area.

According to news agency KDC, Major General Yashpal Singh Mor has served in Kashmir and Punjab who retired in September 2020 as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Ladakh Headquarters.

He has commanded Rashtriya Rifles in Kashmir and is a Sena Medal awardee for his anti-militancy operations in south Kashmir.

His suggestion was agreed to by another retired army officer Lt General H S Panag who replied “I concur”. (KDC)
