EOW Kashmir Registers Case in ₹2.24 Cr COVID Supplies Fraud

Srinagar, Feb 26 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch J&K has filed a formal case against two Srinagar residents for a massive fraud involving medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.The accused, from Peerbagh and Sanat Nagar, allegedly posed as delegates of the J&K Ministry and OSD Supplies. They tricked government departments into transferring payments for medical goods to bank accounts fraudulently opened in the names of real suppliers. Fake email IDs were also used to impersonate legitimate vendors.Preliminary probe shows they swindled ₹27 lakh from one government office and eyed ₹2.24 crore from a medical institution.Offences under Sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (forgery), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC, along with Section 66-D of the IT Act, have been invoked. Investigation is ongoing.
