Elon Musk’s Starlink Set to Launch Internet Services in India with Free Trial and Competitive Pricing
Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, is all set to commence operations in India within the next two months after recently securing a licence from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). With this move, Starlink becomes the third player in India’s satellite internet market, joining Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio.
To mark its entry into the Indian market, Starlink is offering a complimentary one-month trial period for customers purchasing its satellite dish device, priced at approximately ₹33,000. This strategy allows users to experience Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service before committing to a subscription.
Post the trial period, customers will need to subscribe to the monthly unlimited data plan at ₹3,000. The pricing is expected to cater to urban and semi-urban households as well as remote areas where traditional broadband connectivity remains a challenge.
Starlink’s foray into India signifies a crucial milestone for satellite internet services in the country. By leveraging advanced satellite technology, the service aims to deliver fast and reliable internet connectivity, particularly to underserved and rural regions.
While Starlink is a welcome addition to India’s growing satellite internet landscape, it faces stiff competition from established players.
- OneWeb, supported by Bharti Enterprises, has already begun services targeting businesses and governments.
- Reliance Jio is leveraging its vast telecom infrastructure to roll out competitive satellite internet offerings.
With Starlink’s entry, the satellite internet segment in India is poised for rapid growth, bringing high-speed internet to even the remotest corners of the country.
As per reports, Starlink is finalizing operational plans and aims to roll out its services across India within two months. This timeline aligns with the company’s global strategy to expand its footprint in emerging markets.
