Eid-ul-Azha celebrated across J&K with Devotion, Festive spirit
The largest prayer gathering took place at the revered Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, where worshippers came over in thousands together. Among them were prominent political leaders, including Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah jkined by his two Sons and Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
However, Eid prayers were not allowed at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar’s old city, as authorities denied permission to the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid to hold prayers at the Eidgah grounds. Still, smaller congregations were held at various mosques throughout the Kashmir Valley.
Following the prayers, people performed the traditional sacrifice of animals such as sheep, goats, and cattle, commemorating the faith and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
In a message to the public, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended warm Eid wishes. “Eid Mubarak! Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Let’s reiterate our resolve to strengthen the foundations of unity, harmony & brotherhood and work with love and compassion for the well-being of all. May this festival spread peace & bring prosperity to all,” he said in a post on “X”.
A official confirmed that all Eid gatherings went off peacefully across the union territory, with no reports of any disturbances.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Jammu region, where Muslims gathered at prominent locations and religious scholars spoke about the meaning of the day and the spiritual value of sacrifice in Islam.
Security was tightened at all major prayer sites to ensure a peaceful celebration.
