Srinagar, March 4: In a shocking revelation, a medical practitioner has been accused of engaging in a deceitful scheme targeting unmarried women by providing them with falsified pregnancy reports and then demanding payment for terminating the alleged pregnancies.

According to victims, a doctor having private clinic in Srinagar and also Assistant Surgeon in one of the government run hospitals, allegedly exploited the vulnerability of unmarried women and girls seeking reproductive health services.

Victim alleged that the lady doctor in question would fabricate positive pregnancy test results, presenting them to unsuspecting patients, often young and unmarried, and then coerce them into paying exorbitant sums for abortion procedures.

She further alleged said that it cannot be ruled out as the scheme following a string of complaints from several women who had undergone abortions at private clinic.

The victim has also stored audio of recorded phone calls – conversation between her and doctor’s staff — wherein it is clear that doctor wants her to return the prescription back after victim confronted and refused the doctor’s claim of pregnancy and alleged offer for pregnancy termination.

Upon further investigations by ANN News, it was revealed that a victim who approached ANN News had never been a pregnant in the first place, and the pregnancy claims provided by Doctor were entirely falsified.

When contacted the Doctor in question told ANN News that the sometimes medical tests can provide incorrect reports.

“Yes, the pregnancy test was positive but I didn’t demand any money for termination of pregnancy,” she said while replying to a query, adding, “I was aware that the patient is unmarried.”

In the wake of these troubling allegations, health experts are urging members of the public to exercise caution and diligence when seeking medical care, especially in sensitive matters such as reproductive health.

“Unmarried women are advised to seek second opinions and verify the credentials of healthcare providers before consenting to any procedures,” said an expert.
