DGP J&K inaugurates Women Police Station in Baramulla; reviews security of NKR, attends Investiture Ceremony JK Police increasing its legal assistance, help to women victims: DGP
Jammu, February 28: Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh today visited North Kashmir’s Baramulla district where he inaugurated women police station and took a review of the security scenario in an officers meeting at DPO, Baramulla. He also presented DGP’s medal to the 24 officers and jawans of North Kashmir Range in an investiture ceremony held at DPL, Baramulla.
During the visit the DGP was accompanied by IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar and was received by DIG North Kashmir Range Shri Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, SSP Baramulla Shri Abdul Qayoom and other jurisdictional officers.
While inaugurating the women police station, the DGP stressed for counselling in case of domestic disputes so as to help the couples to develop a better understanding. The DGP directed the Women officers and Investigation officers to follow the complaints even after the settlement by visiting their home occasionally to get first hand information that the dispute has settled. SHO of the Police station briefed the DGP about the working process of the police station, and disposal of complaints & registration of FIRs.
While speaking to the media that DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir police is increasing its legal assistance and help to women victims by opening more separate women police stations. He said that in recent months three separate women police stations with additional facility of counselling rooms and playing rooms for children have been opened in J&K and added that more police stations will be made operational in future with the aim to serve the womenfolk legally. He said that the crime against the women will be dealt by women officers/officials in these police stations, adding that opening of this Women Police Station will definitely provide an opportunity to the womenfolk of the respective area to approach Police regarding the crime against them and express their grievances more comfortably.
Referring to continued war against the menace of drug smuggling and abuse, the DGP said that JKP is dealing with the threat at different levels and will continue to fight unless this menace is uprooted from our soil. The DGP said that besides, the stringent action being taken against the drugs smugglers, JK police under its social responsibility is running drug de-addiction centres at district levels, besides two full-fledged Drug de addictions centres with the facility of regular doctors, counselling, yoga, exercise, medication are operational at Srinagar and Jammu where affected persons are being treated.
While chairing the security review meeting, the DGP complimented the Police, Army, BSF, CRPF and other Security Forces for their peace efforts. He said that the teamwork by different forces is being hailed at the highest level of government. He directed the officers to plug in any loopholes in the security grids in north Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar, GOC 19th Inf. Division Major General Gurbirpaal Singh, DIG North Kashmir Range Shri Suleman Choudhary, DIG BSF Sector Baramulla Brig. Jitender Sindhu, DIG CRPF Shri Aneesh Sirohi, SSP Baramulla, SSP Kupwara, SSP Sopore, SP Handwara, ASP Bandipora, Commandants of BSF and CRPF posted in north Kashmir attended the meeting.
GOC 19th Inf. Division, DIG BSF, DIG NKR, DIG CRPF and North Kashmir district SPs briefed the DGP about the current security scenario and measures taken to maintain peace and order in their respective jurisdictions.
The DGP also attended the investiture ceremony first time held in North Kashmir range. While presenting DGP’s medals to the 24 police personnel of the range for exhibiting excellent services to the people and the department, the DGP congratulated the awardees and their families. He stressed upon them to continue with their good work in future as well. He said that Jammu Kashmir Police is committed to provide peaceful atmosphere to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir and added that JKP in Baramulla district and other districts have bravely faced every challenge to maintain peace and order and will continue to do so.
The DGP on the occasion paid rich tribute to the martyrs of JK Police and other security forces who sacrificed their lives for integrity and sovereignty of the country and for the security of the people and their property. He said the department and its force is committed to look after the families of martyrs.
