The Climate 11 Summit – Delhi Edition concluded today at IMT Ghaziabad with the adoption and signing of the Delhi Declaration on Environmental Sustainability in Indian Sport, a first-of-its-kind commitment by athletes, federations, leagues, government representatives, media, and corporate leaders to integrate climate action into Indian sport.
The declaration, signed on stage by leading stakeholders, sets out a shared roadmap to embed sustainability practices across sporting events and institutions. Progress will be reviewed annually at the Climate 11 conference.
Prominent signatories and participants included Shri Devendra Jhajharia (President, Paralympic Committee of India), Shri Satya Prakash Sangwan (Vice President, Paralympic Committee of India), Piara Powar (Convenor, Climate 11 Summit), Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay (Director, IMT Ghaziabad), Dr. Kanishka Pandey (Head, Sports Research Centre, IMT), David Goldblatt (Football Historian & Climate Activist), Shahji Prabhakaran (AFC Executive Committee), senior journalist Sharda Ugra, and representatives from the UN Global Compact Network India, Warner Bros. Discovery, Jakson Group, and others.
A Kashmiri voice was at the forefront of the summit, with Arhan Bagati, Founder of KYARI (Kashmir’s Yumberzal Applied Research Institute) and Awareness Ambassador for the Paralympic Committee of India, serving as both speaker and moderator. Bagati highlighted grassroots perspectives from the Valley and called for practical steps such as heat and AQI safety measures, hydration facilities, inclusive access, and simple seasonal KPIs for sporting venues.
The declaration will now be circulated among sports bodies, clubs, leagues, cities, and corporates, inviting partnerships to ensure that environmental protection in sport is treated as both a necessity and an opportunity.
