Delhi Daredevils IPL Team Renamed As Delhi Capitals
New Delhi: Just before the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions for the 2019 edition, Delhi Daredevils has been renamed as Delhi Capitals today.
The announcement to change the name was made in a function in Delhi by owners GMR Group and JSW Sports.
Besides the name change, the owners have also unveiled a new logo.
In the last nine years, Delhi IPL team has not been able to make much mark in the tournament.
The team managed to enter semifinalists in the opening two editions since 2008, but since than it has made it to the play-offs only once in 2012.
It finishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2018.
Delhi is looking to make a fresh start in the league after years of underachievement.
Owner of Delhi team, GMR group entered into a 50-50 partnership with Mumbai-based steel company Jindal South West (JSW) Sports for the ownership of the team in 2018.
Ahead of the next year IPL auctions, Delhi released their former captain Gautam Gambhir along with Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell and Liam Plunkett and Mohammed Shami.
