Declared dead at SDH Banihal, newborn baby found alive during burial in Banihal

Jammu, May 23 : In a shocking incident, a newly born baby girl, who was declared dead by the staff at Sub District Hospital Banihal was found alive by her family members during burial at a graveyard.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the family members of this newly born baby girl held a protest against the health department and raised slogans in front of Sub District Hospital.

The protesters said that a woman from a village of Banihal was hospitalized at SDH after labor pains and she delivered a baby girl, who, however, was declared dead by the staff in the hospital.

They added that the newly born baby girl remained in hospital for almost two hours after she was declared dead by the staff and was then taken to a graveyard for burial.

“However at that graveyard, locals of the area raised objections against the burial of this baby after which she was taken to another graveyard when we got shocked to see that she was alive,” the protesters said.

“She would have been buried alive if the locals of the area of the first graveyard would not have raised an objection and we are fortunate enough that objection was raised,” the protesting family members said.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Banihal when contacted said that the staff which was on duty at the time of incident has been placed under suspension and further investigation and inquiry is going on—(KNO)
