DDC Chairperson Irked With Indiscipline Among Members, Stops Official Work

Srinagar: “I am fed up,” wrote DDC chairperson Srinagar Malik Aftab on Tuesday after the members created a rumble in the council whose meeting was held yesterday.

The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar called a meeting of the DDC council on Tuesday at his office and asked the members to choose chairpersons for different committees of the Council.

While the voting for chairpersons was going on, the members created ruckus over the candidates who were elected as chairpersons.

“Several members were annoyed by the election of chairpersons for committees. This created a ruckus and rumble in the council,” sources said.

Sources said that the DDC chairperson Malik Aftab didn’t approve the chairpersons and he suspended the council.

But contrary to rules and overriding the chairperson’s powers, DDC vice chairperson Bilal Ahmad, an Apni Party worker, voted chairpersons for the committees.

As per rules of the council, the vice chairpersons cannot elect the chairpersons when the Chairman of the DDC suspends the council.

Sources said that when the members reached Apni Party office, they didn’t take to task Bilal Ahmad for his indiscipline before the chairperson.

Irked by the indiscipline of the members and vice chairperson, Malik Aftab protested and said that he will stay at home rather than working with the indisciplined members which hampers the development of the Srinagar DDC segments.

“I have put my family and my life at stake for the welfare of DDC Srinagar and development, and for the party. But this is how they are treating the elected council,” Aftab told KDC.

He further said that I have been residing in a single room for the last one year and the police is not allowing me to visit home.” I don’t have Govt accommodation earlier promised by the administration, I’m staying here without my family members and other facilities” Aftab added. (KDC)
