DDC Budgam asks for seizure of vehicles violating traffic norms

Inspects Disaster EOC, takes stock of procured equipment

 BUDGAM, FEBRUARY 28: Terming safety of school going children a prime concern, the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganaie today instructed concerned to de-register private schools failing to comply traffic norms.

DDC said this while chairing Regional Transport Authority cum District Road Safety Committee meeting, here today.

The meeting was attended by the ADC Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, SP, Muneer Ahmad, SE Hydraulics, GA Beigh, CPO, Rafiq Ahmad, CEO Fatima Tak, ARTO  Mubashir Jan, Dy. CMO, Tehmeena Bukhari, Tehsildar Nusrat Aziz, Tehsildar Nisakul Farooq, Dy.SP Traffic, EOs, representatives of various transport associations and other concerned.

The DDC urged the transporters to follow traffic norms in letter and spirit to ensure smooth public transport system in the district. He said schools using cabs, buses and other vehicles to ferry students, must meet all the prescribed guidelines. He said any laxity on this count, will not only lead to initiation of stern action but also seizure of vehicles and de-registration of the concerned school.

He instructed ARTO and DYSP Traffic to submit weekly report on action taken against the traffic violators across all routes in the district.

Stressing on audit of roads, the DDC said that ARTO along with Police, R&B and other concerned should inspect all roads and ensure road widening where ever required and to install signage near blind spots.

The DDC also said that to ensure safe public transport system for the lady commuters, special lady buses will be operated on various routes in the district.

The DDC urged transporters to join the district administration’s endeavor to start cab services on various routes to upgrade existing public transport system across the district, besides to replace old buses and mini buses with high tech vehicles.

On the occasion, the transporters raised their various issues and put forth demands including, setting up of driver shelters, development of Bus Adda Budgam, registration of Sumo stands and sanitation in and around the stands.

The DDC assured them that their genuine issued will be resolved on priority.

Later, DDC visited District Disaster EOC centre, established at Tehsil Office Budgam and took stock of the arrangements and equipment procured for prompt disaster response.

 He said that under SDRF, the district administration has procured equipment including tents, life-saving jackets, cutters, long shoes, spades, blankets, electronic gadgets worth Rs 15 lakh for prompt response to mitigate loss of life and property in case of any exigency. He said that fool- proof system should be put in place for disaster management in the district.
