DC Srinagar reviews functioning of Health and Wellness Centres

Over 4 lakh patients given free OPD consultation, 213445 patients provided free medicines and 98057 patients availed free diagnostic services

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 17: To review the functioning of Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) in the District, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Monday chaired a meeting of senior health functionaries here at the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review with regard to the profile & functioning of HWCs including availability of Health Services, Status of operationalization of HWC’s in District, Population Based Screening for Common & CBAC updation on portal for current physical, Financial Status Infrastructure of HWCs, Work-done from April 2020 to September 2022 and Screening of Population in the District.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised about the Services currently available at HWCs of the District including Care in Pregnancy and Child-birth, Neonatal and Infant Health Care Services, Childhood and Adolescent Health Care Services, Family Planning, Contraceptive Service & other Reproductive Health Care Services, Management of Communicable Diseases, National Health Programmes and General Out-patient Care for Acute Simple, Screening, Prevention, Control & Management of Non-communicable Diseases and Chronic Communicable diseases like Tuberculosis and Leprosy.

 The DC was further informed that latest services are being added in incremental manner like Basic Oral Health Care, Screening and Basic Management of Mental Health Ailments, Care for Common Ophthalmic and ENT, Problem, Elderly and Palliative Health Care Services, Emergency Medical Services including Burns and Trauma.

On the occasion, the DC underscored the main objectives and functioning of the Health & Wellness Centres and enjoined upon the Health Functionaries to work in a mission mode for effective and efficient functioning of the H&WCs to serve its purpose in the larger interest of the people.

The DC stressed on promoting social connectivity to promote wellbeing and wellness of people of the District. He further called for integrating Wellness Centres with existing Health system. He also emphasised on giving focused attention towards vulnerable groups including socially and marginalized weaker section of society.

The asked the officers to share a comprehensive awareness plan regarding wellness and happiness with target groups. He said proper counselling is pivotal for wellness and wellbeing of the society.

The DC said HWCs can also favourably influence the habits, attitude and knowledge relating to an individual and community and can modify our behaviour towards the attainment of optimum health.  He emphasized on keeping people healthy by engaging and empowering individuals and communities to choose healthy behaviours and make changes that reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases and morbidities.

The said Wellness Booths will be established in various parts of the District to provide health  and wellness facilities to people of different age groups.

Earlier, while reviewing the Status of operationalization of HWC’s in District Srinagar, the DC was informed that out of sanctioned 92 HWCs 75 are functioning different PHCs, NTPHCs, and UPHCs of the District.

Similarly, with regard to targets achieved under different indicators during current financial year, the DC was informed that over 427026 persons were provided OPD consultation, 2660 wellness sessions were held at H&WCS of the District. Similarly, 213445 Patients were provided free essential medicines, in addition 98057 patients availed free diagnostic services.

Regarding Population Based Screening and CBAC updation on portal for financial year 2022-23, it was informed that out of a target Population of 469808 above 30 years of age 80,960 persons have been enrolled till date with uploading of 67,592 CBAC so far.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning officer, Mohammad Yaseen Lone, Deputy CMO, Dr Asifa, BMO, Hazratbal, Zonal Medical Officer of S R Gunj, Khanyar, Batmaloo, other concerned officers of the Health Department.
