DC Shopian takes stock of snow clearance process on Mughal road
Shopian, Mar 30: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed along with officials of Mechanical Engineering Department, R&B and Mughal Road Division Shopian took stock of snow clearance process.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian on the occasion said that men and machinery were working on war footage but the avalanches on most of the areas hamper the work. “We have put best men and mschinary on job but what takes more time is the avalanches at many places of the road stretch,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian advised the officials to work with proper use of safety gadgets. He also advised people and tourists to visit the area after consulting the authorities to avert any kind of accident, he however said that it would take more time to clear snow from the road.
He said that if weather remains pleasant the road would he thrown open in the third week of April for transport. The snow clearance process was started this month and almost 30 kilometers of road stretch has been cleared by the authorities.
Among many of officials Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Executive Engineer Roads and Buildings Shopian, Syed Abdul Qayoom Kirmani, Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Khursheed Ahmad, Assistant Engineer Mechanical Shopian Fayaz Ahmad along with officials of roads ahd buildings department, mechanical department and officials from mughal Road development Shopian.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian added that mughal Road played a vital role for trade between the two regions by this 84 kilometer Road stretch. He said that snow clearance is also underway on the Ponch side.
Mughal road connects Kashmir through Shopian with Ponch and Rajori in Jammu region. Each year the road remains closed for almost four months due to heavy snowfall and apprehensions of avalanches and shooting stones in the region. (KNS)
