DC Samba chairs Narco Coordination meeting

SAMBA, JUNE 28: The District Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting was held today to review the progress made towards eradication of drug abuse and trafficking in Samba District.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma, during which detailed deliberations were held on measures taken to curb the menace of drug abuse in the district.

The NCORD Committee members informed that several drug peddlers and habitual offenders have been arrested in Samba, especially those operating in the border areas. It was further informed that an awareness campaign has been launched in schools, colleges, Panchayats, on social media platforms to channelise the potential of the youth towards a positive direction.

 The Assistant Controller Drugs informed that 558 medical stores  have installed CCTV cameras which will help in keeping a check on over the counter sale of psychotropic drugs. He further informed that the department has conducted 238 inspections and suspended 6 and cancelled 1 License of erring drug stores.

 The Committee called for putting in place an effective mechanism to ensure zero tolerance against drug peddlers.

The Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on identification of drug addicts and their immediate rehabilitation. He stressed on mapping the vulnerable   spots in the district which have reported cases of drug addiction or its supplies to launch a mass awareness to encourage the community members to facilitate rehabilitation of drug addicts and crackdown on the perpetrators.

The DC asked the Chief Education Officer to launch a massive awareness campaign in the schools to sensitize the students about hazards of drug menace. He stressed for insightful counseling of parents during the parent teacher meet.

All the concerned were asked to compile a database of drug addicts to facilitate their medical treatment and recovery to save their precious lives.

The meeting was attended by SSP Samba Benam Tosh, ADC Rakesh Dubey, CMO Samba Vidhi, CEO Samba Kewal Kumar and other senior officers of the district.
