DC Kathua presides over Block Diwas proceedings at DC office

KATHUA, MAY 04: As part of Public Outreach Programme Block Diwas, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Yadav today listened to the people’s issues here at the conference hall of DC Office complex.

BDC Chairperson Nagri, DDC Member Nagri Sandeep Majotra, Sarpanchs, Panchs and a large number of people attended the outreach programme.

Scores of individuals and deputations including PRI members apprised DC Kathua about the problems faced by the inhabitants of their respective areas.

The people submitted a memorandum of demands highlighting demands including better road connectivity, drinking water supply, Coverage of left out beneficiaries under AWAAS scheme, problem of mobile connectivity, encroachments, shortage of staff, repair of handpumps etc.

The other main issues highlighted during the programme included rejuvenation of old ponds and blacktopping of tractor road at Panchayat Sahar, demarcation of Gha-chrai land at Panchayat Ghatti,  opening of animal husbandry dispensary in Panchayat Bohra, release of pending liabilities under B2V and MGNREGA, opening police post at Mehtabpur Panchayat, Patwar khana building demanded at Panchayat Bhakhta etc.

The DC gave a patient hearing to the demands of the people and passed on the spot instructions to the concerned departments for time bound resolution of all the issues.

Responding to the demands highlighted by the individuals and PRI’ members, the DC said that Block Diwas initiative was aimed at reaching out to the people and listening to their grievances and redressing them in an efficient and coordinated manner. He stressed upon the officers to prioritise the grievances and redress them in a time bound manner.

The DC also stressed on PRI representatives and Officers of concerned departments to work in tandem to achieve desired development targets in a set timelines.

The DC, Rahul Yadav also stressed upon the PRIs to focus on repair and rejuvenation of water bodies and adopting of rain water harvesting techniques to make optimum use of rainwater which in turn will help in maintaining water table levels. He also exhorted them to come forward with a solid waste management plan through active community involvement. He also stressed grey water management at individual level through awareness among the households.

The DC also advised the PRIs to ponder upon the conservation of water bodies through MGNREGA under convergence so that sustainable assets can be created and maintained through judicious use of funds available.

On the issue of encroachment, the DDC sought support and cooperation of PRIs to oust the illegal encroachers from state land. He emphasized upon people to keep their surroundings clean and not allow water stagnation in their milieu as a preventive measure against the spread of dengue/malaria.

Similarly, Block Diwas proceedings were also held at Billawar and Basohli under the chairmanship of ADCs of respective sub divisions.
