Covid-19: Cases in India go past 1,250, death toll at 32
New Delhi: Amid 21-day lockdown, confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in India rose to 1,251 including 49 foreign nationals on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Additionally, 46 cases have been assigned to states to initiate contact tracing.
Active cases according to the ministry rose to 1,117, while 102 patients have been cured and discharged, including one migrated patient.
Fresh deaths on Sunday were reported from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.Surpassing Maharashtra’s number of positive cases, which was earlier the worst-hit state, Kerala now has 202 positive cases with one death, becoming the most-affected state currently.
The national capital saw a spurt of confirmed coronavirus cases with 32 fresh cases added in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 87.During the press briefing today, Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that as many as 92 new coronavirus cases and four deaths, have been reported in the last 24 hours.
The Health Ministry also clarified that the country is still in the local transmission stage.
The country has not yet reached community transmission yet, it added.
“38,442 tests have been conducted till now out of which 3,501 were done on Sunday, it means we are still at less than 30% of our testing capacity. In the last 3 days, 1,334 tests have been done in private labs,” said R Gangakhedkar of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) during press briefing.
The number of deaths have so far been reported from Maharashtra (8), Gujarat (6), Karnataka (3), Madhya Pradesh (3), Delhi (2), Jammu and Kashmir (2) and one each from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.
