Contempt Case; HC Directs DC Gandarbal to Appear in Person As Contemnor, Avoiding Summons Will Be Viewed Seriously

Srinagar, August 2: The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Friday issued a summon to Deputy Commissioner Gandarbal , Shyambir, directing him to appear in person in a contempt of court case.
The directions were issued following a criminal reference made under Section 15(2) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 2015, by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Ganderbal.
“Issue notice to the contemnor, Shyambir, by Humdast. The contemnor shall appear in person before this Court on Monday, i.e., 5th August 2024, at 11:00 am sharp,” the court said.
It added that any attempt by him to avoid service of summons or his non-appearance shall be viewed seriously by this Court, and the Court shall resort to coercive proceedings to secure his presence.”
Additionally, the court has requested senior counsel advocate R. A. Jan to assist as an amicus curiae, with his consent to be sought by the Registrar Judicial of the Court.
Court listed the case for Monday for next hearing.
