Commemorating International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Private Schools’ Association J&K (PSAJK), Ahsan Foundation, Civil Defence organise mega function
Srinagar, June 26: To commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a mega function was today organized jointly by Private Schools’ Association J&K (PSAJK), Ahsan Foundation and Civil Defence Srinagar at Mahajans Green Light Higher Secondary School Ishbar Nishat.
The function was marked by skits, speeches and other programmes marked to aware the people particularly the children about the bad habits of consuming drugs. On this occasion students of the school presented various programmes, skits and speeches that brought to home the message against drugs in a simple and effective way.
President PSAJK G N Var impressed upon teachers and management of schools to keep a strict vigil on students as the complaints regarding drug menace are increasing day by day. He said that henceforth the day will be observed in all schools of J&K at a large scale to aware students of the drug menace
“The fight against drugs is a huge challenge for entire society and here parents and teachers have to play an important role,” said Var. “Moral education and counselling plus encouraging students to take part in extra curricular activities are currently some of the best remedies for students to stay away from drugs. He stressed on the role of using teaching of Islam to make students aware about committing such a sin of consuming or trafficking drugs.”
Speaking on the occasion Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, Chairman Moral Values and Environment Committee of PSAJK highlighted the need to impart moral education to safeguard students from evils and bad habits. Chairman Rahi Public School Rahi Riyaz highlighted the role of society in safeguarding the future of students in schools. He said according to some surveys life of about 40% of students in some areas are spoiled by these drugs.
The others who spoke on the occasion included Prof. Hameed Naeemi, Khursheed Mahajan Chairman Discipline Committee PSAJK, Abdul Majeed Bhat, District Coordinator PSAJK Srinagar, Bilal Ahmad of Alhamza Institute, Dr M Y Wani, Gh Muhammad and Hillal Ahmed of Civil Defence Srinagar
On this occasion prizes were distributed among students who participated in the programme. Ifshana of 10th class bagged first position, Minha of 11th class got 2nd and Aman of 9th class received 3rd position award by Var and other dignitaries.
