CM Sanctions Rs 1 Lakh for Families of Deceased, Rs 50,000 for Severely Injured, Rs 25,000 for Others in Handwara Accident
Kupwara, April 12 The Chief Minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 lakh each for the families of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for those severely injured, and Rs 25,000 for the rest of the injured, following a tragic road accident in Kupwara that claimed the lives of two children and left several others injured.
Minister Javid Dar along with Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, visited the injured at GMC Hospital Handwara and expressed deep sorrow over the incident, terming it a personal tragedy. “The children who lost their lives were my neighbors, and the injured are like my own children,” Wani said.
He lauded the swift efforts of the district administration, medical teams, and doctors in handling the emergency and ensuring timely treatment. “The first priority is to save lives, and the administration is ensuring all necessary care is provided,” he added.
Wani also stressed the need for long-term improvement in Kupwara’s health sector, stating that the administration is actively working to fill gaps in hospital infrastructure. “We need to identify the medical college and start working on it. We also need to improve the hospital conditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether it was due to vehicle failure, driver error, or other reasons. (KNS)
