Cleanliness drive conducted at Bhim Garh Fort to maintain Pristine sheen of heritage site

REASI APRIL 23:  To maintain the clean surroundings at the Historical monument, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Babila Rakwal today launched a cleanliness and plantation drive here in  BhimGarh Fort.

Babila Rakwal exhorted District Officers to support the initiative of the district administration. She said apart from the contribution of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the participation of the locals was also necessary to maintain the pristine glory of the historical fort.

During the campaign, the DC Reasi herself cleaned and collected waste from the park and its surrounding areas.

Talking about the historical significance of the Fort, the Deputy Commissioner said, “BhimGarh Fort was constructed of clay by Rajput king Bhimdev Rasyal of Reasi. “Later  one of the heirs of Raja Rishipal Rana, reconstructed it using stone. It is our prime duty to keep this place  clean and green” she said.

“This campaign can prove effective only if local residents also extend their full support. The Municipal Council has prepared compost pits inside the Fort for collecting the waste and preparing natural fertilizer from the garbage,” she informed further.

For conducting daily cleanliness operations in the fort, the DC Reasi had issued a monthly schedule involving all the departments. As per the roaster, one department is required to clean the Fort on a particular day and date which is clearly specified in the roaster.

The campaign was started with the Agriculture department on April 1, 2022.

The hosting of the Jammu cultural heritage festival in the premises of Fort on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi added new dimensions to this heritage site.

In this long conservation campaign, the Fort was thoroughly cleaned and cleared  of plastic waste and unwanted  plants and trees grown in the surroundings and on the mighty walls.

The exercise of whitewashing and painting the walls has also been taken up, which on completion will reinvigorate the ambience of the Fort.

The DC asked the concerned authorities to replace the damaged solar lights and install more solar lights to make Fort a pivot of censure.

This historical monument is one of the main attraction for the visitors and tourists visiting the district.
