CI Kashmir Nabs Suspect for Impersonating SSP and Misusing Online Platforms

 

Srinagar, June 9, 2025 – In a significant breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of Kashmir apprehended a suspect involved in impersonation and online misconduct. The individual, identified as Barkat Ali Parray, also known as BK, son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray, hailing from Gundhassi Bhat, Sheltang, Srinagar, was taken into custody at Jahangir Chowk.

 

 

 

 

Acting on credible intelligence, CI Kashmir discovered that the suspect was using the photograph of the SSP CI Kashmir as his WhatsApp profile picture, linked to a mobile number registered in his name. This deliberate act was aimed at falsely portraying himself as a police officer to intimidate others.

 

 

 

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had downloaded the SSP’s photograph from the internet and utilized it to threaten the organizers of a gambling platform, ‘777 Gambling Platform,’ demanding a refund for an advance payment he had made. Additionally, the suspect was found to be involved in online gambling activities, including on platforms like ‘Aviator’ and ‘777,’ for over a year.

 

 

 

The suspect’s mobile device is under detailed analysis to determine any potential links to other anti-social or anti-national activities.

 

 

 

Authorities have issued a strong appeal to the youth of Kashmir to avoid falling victim to online gambling apps, which are often designed to exploit users and lure them into unlawful activities.

This case underscores the CI unit’s commitment to curbing cybercrime and ensuring the safety and security of the region. Investigations are ongoing.
