Child Welfare Committee Implements Stringent Measures Against Disclosure of Identities of Vulnerable Children

Rafiq Bhat

Srinagar, Mar 28 (ANN): In response to flagrant breaches of laws safeguarding the identities of Children in Need of Care and Protection and Children in Conflict with Law, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken resolute action.

In a circular issued by the Child Welfare Committee Srinagar, it was stated, “Recent incidents have underscored the disturbing trend of media personnel revealing the identities of vulnerable children, a grave transgression punishable under the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 20.”

Despite prior appeals to the media fraternity to abstain from such conduct, instances of identity disclosure persist, compelling the CWC to escalate its efforts. The committee has formally urged the Director of the Information Department to sensitize media personnel and implement stricter verification protocols for those handling media equipment.

In response to continued violations, the CWC has introduced stringent measures to address the issue. “Any media personnel found violating the laws will face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to two lakh rupees, or both.”

Moreover, the CWC has issued directives to Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and Darul Alooms to prevent unauthorized entry and prohibit the exploitation of children for fundraising activities. “Failure to comply may result in closure and legal action against the management.”

This notice serves as a final warning to media personnel to refrain from divulging the identities of vulnerable children. Any further infractions will be met with swift legal action. The CWC remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the rights and privacy of children in need of care and protection, underscoring the imperative of adherence to legal provisions.
