Chandpora Nalla Scam; DDC Chairman writes ACB to probe excessive extraction of natural resources, property details of officials

Srinagar, April 26: District Development Council (DDC) Srinagar Chairman Srinagar and Apni Party leader Malik Aftab has written a letter to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) urging the agency to probe the excessive extraction of natural resources from Chandpora Nalla than allotted.

The development came after the DDC chairman visited the Chandpora extraction site at the request of locals. The locals apprised him of excessive extraction of resources from the Nalla.

Locals told him that excessive extraction has destroyed the socio-geography of the area.

Quoting locals, the DDC chairman told ANN News that the Irrigation and Flood Control Department had issued a tender for extraction of natural resources from the Nallah worth Rs 30 lakh.

“One of the bidders has paid Rs 63 Lakhs for the contract which is absurd as logically it should have been hardly 2-3 lakhs higher than the minimum bid by Irrigation and Flood Control Department,” said locals.

They alleged that excessive mining using high-end machinery is taking place. “The quantity extracted is much higher than the allotted one under the contract. It is a scam of crores and some officials are hand in glove with the contractor,” alleged locals.

They added that they have brought up these complaints in the notice of concerned officials but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

DDC Chairman Malik Aftab has now written a letter to ACB with the plea to take cognizance of the matter and also investigate the “property statement of officials accused in the scam.”
